One New Lens

Ahhh, photography. one of my first real love affairs. you see i always wanted to be 'artsy', but i could never draw. my sister could, though. my parents paid for her art lessons. no one offered them to me. i wasn't artsy. all of that changed when my dad gave me a camera for high school graduation. my shots were good. i fell in love. after college and marriage and motherhood, i opened a studio. it was fun, then it was work. so i sold the whole deal and put my equipment in the closet. i took my extra cash and bought a digital slr. what a revalation. instant gratification.
and then a few days ago, i got the urge to buy a new lens. canon 85mm f/1.8. and now i am falling all over again. here is an image of a person very near and dear to me. she is beautiful.

fabric and french bread

i love my sister.  she is quite the opposite of me, which is why we are so very close.  when our daughters were very small, we would sew for them.  "the girls" had beautifully smocked dresses, the most adorable hand appliqued wool coats, simple apron dresses and matching bathing suits.  "the girls" are now 15 and would prefer a pair of tight jeans to a smocked pinafore.  but our love for all things fabric never waned.  today, a road trip to a fabric store where every piece was more beautiful than the last.  we drooled.  we chose our pieces, had them cut and left the store.  we stopped for lunch, we ate french bread and fresh strawberries, sweet tea and tasty salad.  it was the perfect way to end the day.  and on the long ride home we talked and talked.  about our kids, our animals, our husbands. and since she is a stay at home mom, and i am a go to work mom, she gently added as i opened my door to say goodbye,  "i will sew that for you if you don't have the time". and she would if i asked her.  because she is my sister.  and she loves me.
